5 Ways You're Indeed A Feminist
1. You use or have used contraceptives in the past.
2. You voted in the last election.
Women were once considered too fragile to even consider politics and were treated like second class citizens.
3. Do you drive a car? Without a male escort? Aha! Feminism.
Although I believe we have a lot of work to do, I don't know a single woman who can't drive these days.
4. You hold a position outside the home.
Society always expected women to keep the home, raise children, keep their husbands happy and volunteer when they had a chance. When women first began working outside the home, they were looked down upon by their peers because it was assumed their children would fall by the wayside and create havoc among their respective communities.
5. You have the right to choose who to love, regardless of race/religion/ethnicity/orientation.
It wasn't that long ago that parents chose specific partners for their daughters. As American culture relaxed a little and people began marrying outside of their race/religion/ethnicity, it was assumed that these new hybrid people wouldn't be as intelligent or beautiful. We now know that's completely inaccurate and bridging cultures together has created a more compassionate era. Millennials may be looked down upon by their elders but if I do say so myself, we are more tolerant, more willing to take risks and less judgmental. That sounds like a win. I'm also proud that today, women can marry whomever they want, including other women.
Love is love is love is love is love.
